Remember that there may be people reading that are new to the franchise!!Spoiler goes here! If you care about being guaranteed to have the 'best' weapon and are playing the original release (not the International Zodiac Job System version), there are four chests scattered throughout the game that you must not open. There are no indicators whatsoever that opening one of these will prevent you from getting the weapon. I don't think it's really worth it to worry about it too much personally, but getting the weapon through other means is incredibly rare and time-consuming.Don't purchase licenses for magicks/technicks that you do not yet possess (it's a waste of LP), but always make sure you have all the licenses for magicks/technicks which you can purchase (and in the case of magicks at least, always purchase them as soon as possible). Augments are surprisingly useful too, especially in the early game when you don't have access to much equipment. I also recommend diversifying your party, as Quickening and Esper slots are scattered across the License Board and having all characters go down the same path may make it difficult to unlock them all until later in the game.The game doesn't really mention it, but different weapon types function very differently.

If you went from only in-game information, the only difference you would see is in power and it may look like one weapon is much stronger than everything else when in fact it is not. If I see 12 chest just sitting there of course my first reaction is opening all of them.I've never been a fan of game mechanics that accomidate only those that have already played the game before or using a guide because there is zero indication to not open 'these-very-very-specific-chests'To each their own but so find it a lazy way to add 'replay value'. Most of your Gil at the beginning of the game will come from selling trash loot stolen from enemies so, if you wanna be well-adjusted or prepared to buy stronger weapons/magicks, have Vaan steal at least once per enemy as you progress. No problem!I also forgot one important tip that helps balance everyone's levels. Alternating parties. I usually have Ashe/Fran/Basch as my main party and Vaan/Balthier/Penelo as my substitute party. Say everyone is at the same level: if one party levels up, switch out to the other party until they level up and continue the circle. These are the things I wish I'd known on first playthrough (all for original release, not Zodiac Job thingy):Golden amulet accessory (available from Moogle merchant in Eruyt Village after you return there from Henne Mines) doubles License Points earned.Embroidered Tippet accessory (available from Merchant when you arrive in Old Archades) doubles Experience Points earned.Acquiring the second and final Mist abilities gives big boosts to maximum Mist Points for that character.Cleanse magick (available from a merchant in Phon Coast) is REALLY helpful when you reach Giruvegan.
