There have been a number of posts recently regarding potential battery drain issues since the 7.1.2 update but it's really hard to tell how widespread this may be from comments both confirming and denying this so I made this quick survey to collect some data in a somewhat-scientific manner. If I get a significant number of responses I'll post results and summaries in a few days. Please don't downvote just because you haven't had issues. Please just express this by taking the quick survey to say you haven't had any issues and your Pixel is awesome.
I've said this multiple times in other battery life threads already. But this thing where people claim their battery life has degraded because of an update happens every single month. I'm willing to bet if you run this poll every month, the numbers would be more or less the same.Suppose the issues are legitimate. My guess is that chances are, the updates themselves are not the issue and is either one or more of the following;. Rogue apps.
The update mechanism itself is causing wakelocks. We should be teaching people to actually measure battery life scientifically using a standardized test and looking for wakelocks.I swear every single update and people claim battery life has changed. This happens in the ROM world too. Nightlies from CyanogenMod would trigger all sorts of responses even if there were no commits. Heck it could've been translation commits only for one night and you would have people claiming the new nightly screwed everything up.The thing with Android is apps behave differently over time through updates and you could very well have different behavior between restarts. It's really hard to pinpoint a single OS update unless you rule out your apps. I feel like I notice this with every Nexus and now my pixel-updates seemed to make the battery life worse, and never as good as new.But.

Then I took a step back and analyzed my usage habits. Always installing new and more apps? Started using a wearable connected via Bluetooth all the time? Check. So I set my phone up as a new device, temporarily stopped using my wearable. On the newest software my battery was as good if not better than when I got my phone. Consistently, over the course of 2 weeks.I think it's a combination of apps going awry over time, having more and more apps over time and users not considering their usage habit differences over time.Updates can cause issues, but unlikely to be a pathological and prolific issue that goes on update after update.
